We headed down to Eton College last night, to see talented A -level student and fashion designer Joe Nickols, put on his second catwalk show in the School Hall. The organising committee was led by the provost's wife, Caroline Waldegrave, and included the headmaster's wife, Jennifer Little, Trevor Pickett,Topshop's Mary Homer and Lady Sarah Chatto. Vivienne Westwood (with her husband, Andreas Kronthaler) and Jasper Conran sat next to us on the front row, while the hall was packed with parents and boys watching as the Storm models and the girls from nearby St George's Ascot, graced the catwalk in Joe's bodycon dresses and graceful eveningwear. Vivienne declared it "incredibly sexy"and Jasper Conran said it was 'phenomenal.' High praise indeed. Proceeds from the night went to the disaster relief charity Shelterbox, and also, poignantly, to Horatio's Garden Appeal. Horatio Chapple was one of Joe's great friends, tragically killed last year on an expedition. His mother Olivia made a very moving speech.
Joe definitely proved to be one to watch and we will be monitoring his progress closely.

It was a double celebration as Atelier Mayer's
Carmen Haid joined Lama El Moatassem (founder of the Toujouri
collection - think luscious-coloured chiffon goddess gowns and
handbeaded kaftans) for the launch of Toujouri's flagship boutique
in Lama's hometown of Doha in Qatar. Carmen is collaborating with
Lama on a special line of kaftans. The party at the sleek Peter
Marino-designed store (texture, bricolage of stones and sliding
walls) was super chic, with guests whipping up copies of the
Atelier Mayer Magazine. Doha is fast becoming a luxury shopping and
holiday destination, with a marina, resort and retail development
called The Pearl and a burgeoning culture with a host of museums
including IM Pei's stunning Islamic Art Museum. Carmen and
Lama's guests were treated to a Lebanese supper and desert safari
the following day.
We're all going on a summer holiday… or dreaming of
one, anyway, after spotting this scrumptious luggage at the press
day in Aspinal's new Covent Garden store. The Candy Case luggage -
rolled out in delectable new shades as part of the Revival
Collection - stole the show, but these gorgeous iPad cases also
caught our eye - in classic ostrich embossed leather or this
patriotic option.

Rule Britannia - Next rolled out an eccentrically English bedecked caravan at their high summer press day. Now all we need is a warm spell!

Forget Rodeo Drive or Hollywood, Los Angeles's
best secret shopping strip is Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Located in
Venice Beach, it's a great source of secondhand designer wear - we
spotted Marni, Balenciaga and Isabel Marant. Plus, it's fabulous
for antiques and interiors. Our favourites are Tumbleweed &
Dandelion (1502 Abbot Kinney Boulevard) for rustic French and
Bountiful Home (1335 Abbot Kinney Boulevard) for vintage milk
bottles and pastel coloured cake stands. Sweet!
How best to observe the tide of patriotism taking hold this summer? With a good old-fashioned cuppa and your favourite biscuit, of course. We love these cushion interpretations of our favourite British biscuits; Vogue was given a sneak preview, but they should land in Selfridges as part of its Big British Bang celebration from Friday May 4.

On quick trip to Olatz on Clarkson Street in New
York, home of sumptuous bedding and the most delicious nightwear,
we bumped into artist, director and "reluctant decorator" Julian
Schnabel. Schnabel's former wife, Olatz Lopez Garmendia, owns the
store. He wears the pyjamas, most of the time - except today, when
we caught him instead wearing paint-spattered overalls. Mind those
exquisite linen sheets!

Angela Missoni had the audience in fits with her talk on her family's history at the V&A this week. The legacy of the Missoni fashion house, her parents' meeting, and her eventual move to designing for the house were all covered, reflecting the label's family values and vibrant aesthetic. The presentation was the third of the Peroni Collaborazioni Talks series held in the V&A; the final talk will be with Anna Dello Russo, editor at large of Japanese Vogue.

We caught up with New York singer Azealia Banks at
Paris couture outside Lagerfeld HQ - and again later at the
Lagerfeld dinner, where she performed. Cara Delevingne also
impressed us with her ability to rap later in the evening.

Humming with couture clients this week, the Plaza
Athenée hotel is one of Paris's finest. Naomi Campbell is a
regular, and the courtyard terrace, with its signature tomato-red
umbrellas, is quite the "natural" googling spot. From the vantage
point of the eighth-floor suites, you can also meditate on a
spectacular views over Paris and focus on the comings and goings.
The third 2012 Dorchester Fashion Prize (following London and New
York) will be all about Paris talent, and the Plaza Athenée is the
host hotel.

Saddle up that thoroughbred - we are very taken with
Givenchy's urban riding riff in the pre-collections.

Diane Kordas's new line of mesh rose-gold rings is
heaven - that's Valentine's Day sorted.
Available from Net-a-porter.com, Dover Street Market and

Inspired by the original Charlie's Angel, Sabrina,
we nipped down to Selfridges to create our very own name necklace
at Tatty Devine's hi-tech pop-up shop. Choose your typeface,
palette and wording, and watch it being crafted to kitsch
perfection at their temporary lab. If you're short on inspiration,
they've also created an exclusive Words, Words, Words jewellery
collection, only available at the Selfridges Concept Store until
Thursday March 1.

The Gem Palace is a must for most Europeans in
Jaipur, but don't miss an opportunity to meet the charming Vinesh
Kumar Makeshwari. His studio - a trade secret, known only to those
tastebrokers in film, fashion and design who fly in to see him - is
hidden away on the floor above Jaisalmer Arts and Crafts, the
fabulous textile emporium of his equally charming brother Kishor.
Vinesh makes beautiful Mughal-style jewellery with a lot of uncut
diamonds, rubies and emeralds, and beautiful Bakelite pieces with
embellishment and filigree work. There is also more everyday,
accessible jewellery - gold bangles, cocktail rings and uncut
diamond bracelets.

On the scent of our favourite SS12 bad gal floral
bouquets at Ashish, this Thursday we're excited to catch the Test
Presents screening of legendary mischievous Czech film 'Daisies'
introduced by guest host and Fashion In Film festival director and
curator Marketa Uhlirova. Few feminist farces look this glorious
and come underpinned by such an irreverent philosophical agenda...
And naughtiness for the sake of naughtiness is something one can
never turn one's nose up at.
Vera Chytilova's 'Daisies' will be screened at Bethnal Green Town
Hall Hotel on Thursday 19th January 2012 at 7:00PM as part of the
ongoing Test Presents series.

With their Frida Kahlo looks (wearing Boudicca and
Dolce lace) and super-artisan jewellery (hand-made in Mexico),
Annette and Phoebe of Anndra Neen are a striking sister duo.
Mexican-born but NYC-dwelling, the sisters are the proud winners of
the Dorchester Collection Fashion
Prize' . We love the beaten silver
cuffs. Find the line at Browns and Avenue 32.

The table setting at Harry's Bar for Chanel's annual new year
lunch is always a picture, with multiple vases of white flowers
(hyacinths, roses, freesias), candles, Harry's violet-patterned
Limoges service and pretty placement cards making up the
picture.

A small gem of a shop with many a desirable objet -
Phillips de Pury's shop on Brook Street, with its selection of
one-offs and limited editions, is worth popping by.

"Away from the glittering turquoise pools of David Hockney and the unrelenting 'Hooray for Hollywood' macrobiotic cheeriness, there is, of course, another Los Angeles," begins the text to Rick Owens's splendid new book. This hefty, large-scale volume, published by Rizzoli, skilfully navigates his mesmerising twilight world populated by haunting beauties and dark-clad silhouettes. His skinny leather jackets (that launched a million copies) and ethereal draped jersey gowns are part of the reason why Owens has legions of followers - this is one designer with a consistent vision, untainted by PR and marketing hype.

Eva Karayiannis, inspiration hunter and owner
of Caramel, the divine children's shop, popped by to Vogue today.
We love her fairy tale style - she's wearing a Peter Pan-collared
vintage dress from Hammersmith Textile Fair, a belt transformed
from a hairband by Cherry Chau at Fenwicks, old YSL stilettos and
lacy Tabio socks.

If you find yourself in Berlin, check out Vogue photographer Alasdair McLellan's wonderful exhibition of portraits at the 032c Workshop. His images resonate with the emotion of an era. At Joerg Koch, Brunnenstrasse 9, Berlin, from January 12 to February 20.

Brussels is the perfect quick weekend getaway for
antique shopping. Base yourself around the Rue de Laeken for a
great array of stores and bazaars selling twentieth-century modern
- and many a lamp. The best stop for coffee (and lemon pie) is
Toukoul, an Ethiopian resto bar and music venue. Galerie D'Agata on
8 Rue J Stevens is another design haunt. Top it all off with a
dinner at Odette's, a soignee restaurant hotel near the flower
market.

While perusing the wonderful Rifat Ozbek's shop Yastik, we noticed a shop a couple of doors down - so we popped in and fell in love with these hand-blown Venetian-glass blobs. They are exquisite: mini sculptures by a Japanese artist to inspire the hand and mind. From £2,300, at Willer, 12 Holland Street, W8.

This weekend fashion consultant Yasmin Sewell married her Australian beau Kyle Robinson with their four-month-old-son, Knox, as their page boy. The lovely, flower-filled reception was held in Kyle's family restaurant on the Mornington Peninsula, just outside of Melbourne, with Lebanese dancing led by Yasmin's family. Guests included many of Australia's fashion folk: designer Josh Goot and his girlfriend, fashion editor Christine Centenera, among them. We wish Yasmin and Kyle every happiness.
